Conversational Italian, Lesson 6
Transitive infinitive
English and Italian use two types of infinitives, transitive andIntransitive.
Transitive infinitives have objects--the action is transferred from thesubject to the object. For example, the infinitive to give dare, istransitive because it signifies that something is being transferred.
In English, transitive and intransitive infinitives are conjugatedexactly the same--both have the same forms. In Italian, however, transitive and intransitive verbs are conjugated differently--bothhave different forms.
Example: I stop. Fermo. (the lol in fermo is equal to the / I/ in Istop. )
