On Suffering

Sensitvity

Slowly,
his foot goes forward
his head bending
with each step
taken through the silent road.

The crisp leaves crackle
under the feet
that deal
the unexpected blow.
Come,
return to your room;
enclose all that's within you,
and lie on your bed
like the paralysed leaves
awaiting the unsolicited wind
that will put
their quivering
membranes
to flight.
