Lacreme napuletane was composed in 1925 by Francesco Buongiovanni to words by Libero Bovio (1883-1942).

In 1924, Bovio came to NY to run a large emporium founded by Antonio De Martino. After 20 years, he returned to his Naples. Bongiovanni also emigrated to NY and wrote words for another song 'A cartuline 'e napule."
