The Battery contains 12 parts for each language:

Parts A B C deal with Phonetics (first letter recognition, first two letters
recognition, and spelling).

Parts D E F G H present Comprehension Situations (opposites, similarities,
comparisons, reading, and listening).

Parts I J K present writing situations using the Picture Generating Response
Method. Students are directed to answer questions on items, actions, and
relationships.

Part L contains ten questions dealing with Oral Proficiency and can be used
during the first interview.

Because of its efficient use of time and materials, the Battery is easily
administered and quickly reveals language proficiency levels of foreign
students entering our schools, of American students in traditional modern
language classes, and of  immigrants entering the work force.

The Battery of Tests is designed to achieve the following goals:

• To determine the extent of an individual's Native Language and/or English language skills and proficiency
• To establish current language dominance
• To determine Point of Bilinguality
• To help diagnose language weak and strong points
• To help discover motor and/or other handicaps or disabilities
• To evaluate rate of language acquisition and/or language loss (criterion-referenced)
• To present charts for quick and easy visual comparison between levels of Native Language and English language proficiency
• To help make program placement-leveling decisions
• To help make program exit decisions
• To help determine whether the student should pursue bilingual instruction

Note: Students having formal instruction programs in their Native Language would achieve higher levels of bilinguality. Placing these students in such programs should be a desired goal of all educators.
